So first I just want to say hi to everyone I've been reading this board for a long time and it's so nice to hear opinions from people my own age going thru the same things... having said that I just got my surgery date and I'm really worried about hair loss... I had my tonsils out and then a second surgery to fix a broken nose in nov and I didnt know that anasthesia alone can cause hair loss my hair is already thinning like crazy others say they don't notice but it drives me crazy my hair has always been nice and thick, one of my best features so I'm afraid I'm going to go bald after the gastric bypass I know that's dramatic but I can't stop stressing about it, is there anything anyone did that actually worked with stopping the hairloss?

I dont know if your going to go bald, but I didn't have any hair loss after my surgery.  I shed like crazy so i would have noticed if big chucks fell out.  So not everyone looses hair after surgery, so i hope this makes you feel better

I did lose a lot of hair.... it started about 3 months in. I have just started to get it back (im 8 months out now)  You couldn’t notice... but I drew it in (yeah i know haha but it really worked great) I used powder des by Barratry advantage and my hair is coming back like crazy! Even if i lost all my hair the bypass is definitely worth it!

I've heard a lot about people losing hair post op.  My doctor said part of that is lack of protein.  He told me to start taking Biotin 2 weeks post op.  Hopefully that will work for me.  (My surgery is Monday!).  My mother and sister had no problem with hair loss.

I've had no hair loss issues...in fact, with all the protein, calcium and vitamins, my hair has gotten THICKER and my skin just glows...I've been religious about my biotin and an average of 100g of protein a day...never felt or looked better in my life... My surgeon told me that as long as I do everything in my power to keep my bloodwork in range, my hair should be fine.....and it has! good luck to you...I know it's rough, but don't sweat the small stuff...I don't know of anyone who went BALD after surgery...and it's my understanding that by the time hairloss becomes visible, it's already begun to grow back...your supplements are going to be a part of your life forever after WLS... you'll find your balance and everything will be fine! xxxBecca
